Pre-season squabble

From Tecumsehs

Jump to: navigation, search

The pre-season squabble is the closest thing that the Tecumsehs have to an AGM. We don't have an AGM because that would be too organised which is against the spirit of the whole thing really. It generally happens in February before the GLSML AGM takes place.

However, suspiciously AGM like business does get conducted at the PSS. The coach, captain, team rep, social secretary, tournaments officer and umpiring co-ordinator roles get allocated. And Adrian refuses to let anyone else play with the money. The level of subs are set and much beer is consumed, especially by those who are being stitched up for a role they are not embracing with sufficient enthusiasm. Many a Tecumseh has woken up to an email congratulating them on their new post without having any recollection of what, exactly, it was they ageed to do.

[edit] 2008 PSS

The 2008 pre-season squabble took place on 13 February 2008 at the Rose & Crown. For the first time in living history there was an agenda and it went something like this:

1a. Buy beer

The beer bought was mainly Fosters and Adnams. Fizzy water and J2O were also purchased.

1b. Snackman buys the snacks

Snackman bought one of everything. This surprised the new member of bar staff slightly. There were bacon bites but no wotsits.

1c. Grace (led by Reverend Emanuel)

This may have happened. I don't remember.

2. Short round up of the news from the AGM

The league will subsidise use of 11" balls for women. Met with general derision and duly noted that Tecumseh women do not like small balls. However, if balls are free we will get some on account of them being gratis.

If a team is unable to fulfil an umpiring fixture the league will try and find a BASU umpire but this will cost the team an additional £15. If you are a BASU umpire umpiring a regular game for your team you will get an extra 15 quid paid for by the league.

League fees are going up.

Some librarian is putting together a history of the league.

3. Vote on 'officers'

Results:

  • Captain:Shell
  • Treasurer:Adrian
  • Team Rep: Hils
  • Tournaments Rep: Tim
  • Web b1tch:Jen
  • Social Sec: Laura
  • Team Chef:Jane
  • Team Chaplain:Tim
  • Token Canadian:Larry
  • Coaching co-ordinator:Sion
  • Umpire co-ordinator:Tony
  • Snackman:Farooq

4. Buy more beer, possibly order pizza or chips

More beer was bought. It was concluded that eating (of anything other than potato or corn based snacks) was cheating.

5. Plan for season (e.g. get promoted back to the 4th)

Get promoted. If there is a playoff to go back to the 4th; win it.

A long discussion ensued on when we need to practice, what we need to practice and the team philosophy (which to summarise seems to be win, but not at all costs).

Tim will send round an email of possible tournaments.

6. Headcount - do we need more players?

We could, as ever, do with a couple more girls.

7. Rough outline of timetable for season - practices, tournaments and games, etc

The season starts on 28/4. Registration needs to be completed by 31/3. Subs need to be paid by 14/4.

Practices will start w/c 1 April. Definitely Weds and one other weeknight (day to be confirmed).

Sunday afternoon practices will continue for those that want them. Sion will co-ordinate.

8. Divide responsibilities for the team kit

Adrian will speak to the Rose & Crown about storing the kit with them.

9. Pause for more beer

There was a pause for more beer.

10. Sending people on umpiring course

We currently have no qualified umpires. Dates for the umpiring course are:

Beginners: 28/29 March (anyone who's never been on the course)

Refresher: 6 April (Laura, Larry, Tony, Farooq, Jen, Shell, Jane, Andrew)

11. Any other business

More beer. The next social is the pub quiz at the Rose & Crown on 11 March.
